Remember that, though we are the biggest army in the world, we are not like other armies. Most armies are men brought together, in many countries obligated to serve, in other countries paid for serving, to learn how to kill fellow men in order to defend their country. We are an army of voluntary fellows, who all come together because we want to, joining in good comradeship and good discipline in order to become happy, helpful citizens of our own country, and good friends with each other throughout the world. We are not an army for fighting, but an army for peace.
Lord Baden-Powell. (Founder of Scouting)
Welcome to the most adventurous and exciting section of Scouting. Explorers is a section that caters for 14 to 18 year olds who have an interest in Outdoor Pursuits, Meeting people both locally and around the world and taking part in activities not normally open to the public. Douglas Explorers is the unit that caters for people of Explorer age in the Douglas area.
Explorers is the section that follows Standard Troop Scouting and precedes Scout Network. Because Scout Network operates without leaders, the aim of this section is to introduce unit independence. This means self-organisation, running of meetings and management of an Activities Programme. An Explorer Unit is able to take part in activities that may be ruled out in a Scout Troop because of the age of some of the younger members.
The unit meets regularly on Tuesday evenings in the Douglas area between 7:30 and 10:00. Certain activities may take place outside of normal meeting hours. If you would like to get involved with the unit simply contact the Unit Leader who can advise you further.
