Today started at 05:45 sharp! After clearing up camp we left quietly as the German Scouts were still sleeping. Parents of the 29th Dutton Scouts gave us a lift to Dublin Airport in their cars. The check-in & security procedure was long winded and very strict but we eventually all made it through to the departure lounge before taking a full cooked Irish(?) Breakfast. The plane journey lasted nearly 8 hours and in this time Logs were written, Music was absorbed and in-flight movies watched. From Atlanta Airport we passed through another level of excessive security before departing to Detroit.
On arrival in Detroit airport we eventually found the Baggage Carousel and proceeded to collect our things as the resident Scouters arrived. They then took us on a long drive to our new houses for the week. The group was then split into two sections. The first sub-group consisted of Luke, Steffan, Owen and Paul. The remainders formed the second.
On arrival at each of our destinations we found the Families EXTREMELY welcoming and friendly, and despite the amount of travelling we had undertaken that day much was discussed on that first night with them. We knew straight away that we were going to be very comfortable with them. |
